AGREE Expert Advisory Panel
The Expert Advisory Panel assists in determining the topics for AGREE modules
and reviews the content of the modules for accuracy and relevance.

Doriane L. Coleman, JD, is Professor
of Law at Duke Law School, where among other things she teaches
a seminar in genetics and the law. She has a special interest
in the law's response to the Human Genome Project, especially
as it relates to women's and children's issues. She also has directed
a summer seminar on genomics and the law under the auspices of
the University's Center for Genome Ethics, Law and Policy (GELP).

Robert Cook-Deegan, MD, is Director
of the Center for Genome Ethics, Law, and Policy at Duke University.
Until July 2002, he directed the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Health Policy Fellowship program at the Institute of Medicine
(IOM), National Academy of Sciences. He is also a Robert Wood
Johnson Health Policy Investigator at the Kennedy Institute of
Ethics, Georgetown University.

Lauren A. Dame, JD, MPH, is Associate
Director for the Center for Genome Ethics, Law, and Policy. She
is also a Senior Lecturing Fellow in the School of Law, where
she teaches classes on bioethics and the law, and genetics and
the law. She is a Faculty Associate in the Center for the Study
of Medical Ethics and Humanities.

John M. Falletta, MD, is Chairman
of the Duke University Health System's Institutional Review Board
and a Professor of Pediatrics. He has extensive experience in
the oversight of research and has helped identify relevant topics
for inclusion in the Duke web-based educational program for investigators
and IRB members.

Lorna C. Hicks, MS, is the Associate
Director, Office of Research Support, and the Director, Program
for the Protection of Human Subjects in Non-Medical Research.
She is currently involved in creating a series of web-based educational
modules for investigators and IRB members regarding research with
human subjects in the social and behavioral sciences.

Angela R. Holder, LLM, is Professor
of the Practice of Medical Ethics and Center Faculty in the Center
for the Study of Medical Ethics and Humanities. Ms. Holder's research
and teaching focus on the ethical and legal issues in human subjects
research, in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, and in human
reproduction. Ms. Holder has served as President of the American
Society of Law and Medicine and has been a member of three study
committees of the Institute of Medicine.

Elizabeth Kiss, D Phil, is Associate
Professor of the Practice of Political Science and Philosophy
and Director of the Kenan Institute for Ethics. She serves on
the Advisory Committee for Duke s Institute for Genome Sciences
and Policy and the Steering Committee for the Center for Genome
Ethics, Law and Policy, and is a Faculty Associate in the Center
for the Study of Medical Ethics and Humanities.

Joellen M. Schildkraudt, PhD,
is Associate Professor of Community and Family Medicine. She is
a genetic epidemiologist who has done extensive work on breast
and ovarian cancer as well as large population-based genetics
research.

Kevin A. Schulman, MD, MBA,
Professor of Medicine and Professor of Business Administration,
serves as Director of the Center for Clinical and Genetic Economics
at the Duke Clinical Research Institute, Director of the Center
for the Study of Health Management at the Fuqua School of Business
and on the Steering Committee for Duke's new Genome Ethics Law
and Policy Center. He is an active researcher in health services
research, including the assessment of clinical decision-making
for patients with life-threatening diseases.

Andrew W. Siegel, J.D., Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Gynecology and
Obstetrics in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Core Faculty in the Phoebe R. Berman Bioethics Institute. He is also a faculty member of the Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute and Affiliate Faculty at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown. He received his J.D. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Siegel has served as Staff Philosopher for the National Bioethics Advisory Commission, Legislative Fellow for Senator Edward M. Kennedy and the Labor and Human Resources Committee, and Staff Attorney for the Task Force on Genetic Testing of the Working Group on the Ethical, Legal and Social Issues of the Human Genome Project. His current research focuses on ethical and legal issues in human stem cell research, exploitation in research, and privacy.

Marcy C. Speer, PhD, is
Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine's Section of
Medical Genetics who has also worked as a genetic counselor. She
is extensively involved in genetics research in birth defects
and other neurogenetic conditions and is frequently called upon
to 'translate' genetics to multiple different audiences. She also
serves on the Duke University Health System IRB.

Barbara S. Turner, RN, DNSc,
is Professor and Associate Dean for Research in the School of
Nursing and is a member of the Duke University Health System IRB.
She has recently initiated a large-scale educational project that
involves genetics education for physicians assistants, nurse practitioners
and nurse midwives that involves the use of web-based education.

R. Sanders Williams, MD, is Professor
of Medicine, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean, School
of Medicine. He has experience both as a clinical cardiologist and
a bench scientist working in molecular biology. Dean Williams also
co-chairs the Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy. |
